ID 3311 Final Project

George Nelson is a man who can be recognized through many different pieces of furniture. With an education in Fine Arts from Yale University, and studying architecture in Rome, Architecture wasn't exactly what he was known for. George became the Design Director at Herman Miller and there he was able to introduce several important innovations for production. The Swagged Leg Group of various tables and a chair with new structure techniques that allowed flexibility no had yet seen. The Platform Bench which was a simple design which is still popular today. The Coconut Chair which is triangular in shape getting it's inspiration from a coconut. The Marshmallow Chair with individual cushion which can be seen as a fun design and last but not least to mention is the variety accessories George designed. A variety of wall clocks known as star-burst and the bubble lamps George Created for Herman Miller. Through-out his career George Nelson created several pieces which stand out in design even today.



Project Statement:

The following post are ones specifying the materials used in a law office which all design choices were made with inspiration from the works of George Nelson. The specifications are made for all the permanent materials used throughout the space.
